Johannes Spieler and Johannes Kühberger were honored by the board of trustees at Francisco Josephinum for their diploma thesis "Fatty Acid Extraction from Environmental Samples as Part of Long-Term Research at Lake Lunz," which was created in collaboration with the WasserCluster. Along with Samuel Kämmer, who supervised the interns last summer, the entire team is delighted for the successful graduates and extends heartfelt congratulations!
The technicians at WasserCluster Lunz completed an important informative rescue exercise. Regular sampling from the boat requires the best possible safety concept as well as training and preparation for emergencies.
Equipped with snorkeling gear or waders, a WCL team set off on a major clean-up operation: the shore areas of Lake Lunz were cleared of several bags of garbage, which certainly had no place in the lake.
On August 23 and 23, 2024, we were delighted with the interest shown in our open day events. The program included a series of lectures on Friday and family-friendly hands-on stations in the labs, guided tours and culinary delights on Saturday.
This year's biennial OPEN DAY starts on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 6 pm with an evening lecture series.
Anyone interested in aquatic ecosystem research at the WaterCluster will get an exciting insight into the scientific activities of our five working groups.
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, we offer an extensive program for young and old from 1:30pm to 5pm with guided tours, hands-on stations, a puzzle rally for children, BBQ-Snacks and drinks, to have an communicative and enjoyable afternoon with you.
We look forward to your visit!
The 26th edition of our institute's biannual newsletter has been published. It contains: News about projects from all five working groups, the team and events at the WasserCluster Lunz.
On July 1, 2024 a new research group under the leadership of Libor Závorka begins its scientific activities:
SciFish - the acronym stands for Synthesis of changes in Fish species and habitats - deals with the three main topics of Eco-evolutionary dynamics in lakes and rivers, Fish behavior and physiology, and Biology of aquatic invasions. Research aims of the SciFish group are to enhance our understanding of the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms operating on organisms within aquatic ecosystems, and thereby facilitating their effective conservation.
Yinzhe Zhang successfully defended his PhD thesis “Studies on the trophic ecology of silver carp and bighead carp pelagic food webs in lakes based on fatty acids markers” on May 24, 2024 in Wuhan, China. He spent the year 2023 as a guest researcher of the LIPTOX group at WasserCluster. Congratulations from the whole team and good luck for the future!
