Marina Ivanković (AG AquaScale) successfully defended her PhD thesis at the University of Vienna in December. The topic of her thesis was focussed on: Mixotrophic bacterivory in lake ecosystems under current and potential climate conditions under the supervision of Robert Ptacnik and Mia Bengtsson. Congratulations!

Isabell Gmeiner successfully presented her Master's thesis at the University of Vienna on 23.10.2023. Her confident presentation "Spatial and Temporal Variation of Lipids in Stream Periphyton and Benthic Invertebrates" convinced the committee. Congratulations from the LIPTOX group, especially their leader Martin Kainz, and from the whole WCL team!
The first in-person eLTER meeting of the platform coordinators took place in Lunz from 2-5 October. 70 representatives of the eLTER community from 21 European countries exchanged information on long-term ecological research within the European eLTER infrastructure. At the same time, there was an opportunity to learn about the analytical and experimental facilities at WassercLuster. From August to September 2023, an international team of researchers together with the AquaSale lab studies the effect of low and moderate salt additions to freshwater pelagic communities in a mesocosm experiment. This is the last experiment funded by the EU project AQUACOSM-plus. As in previous years, thanks to Lunz Fireworkers for logistic support.
The Mollusc Research Association Austria (MoFA), which has been in existence since 2016, held its 3rd meeting at WasserCluster Lunz from 18-19 August. After the exciting scientific exchange on Friday, a malacological excursion around the area of Lake Lunz completed the programme on the following day.
At the Symposium for European Freshwater Siences (SEFS13) held in Newcastle in June, Samuel Kämmer's poster was honoured as the second-place presentation. The topic: Assessing the depth of zooplankton foraging using a Bayesian fatty acid-specific stable isotope mixture model.

Katrin Attermeyer and Benjamin Misteli represented WCL at the 2nd general assembly meeting of the RESTORE4Cs project. The meeting was held in Klaipėda, Lithuania, on 4-6 July 2023 and hosted by Klaipėda University – Marine Research Institute. During the 3-day meeting, representatives from all project partners have reunited in person, to discuss the different Work Packages progress, exchange ideas, and consider future project activities.
