Fish stock in Lake Lunz is changing as more and more pike live in the lake. WCL-group leader Martin Kainz researches this phenomenon with an international team. The austrian TV made a short report.
Gwendal Paget, master student in the working group BioFrames, defended successfully his msc thesis with the title "The importance of flow and flood pulses for the trophic development of altered floodplain systems" at BOKU Vienna on June 6th.
WCL team leader Tom Battin was on 4th June guest in the ORF programme science.talk. With moderator Barbara Stöckl he talked about the worth of water, ecological protection of water and his career as a scientist.
More than 300 researchers from more than 30 countries met in Vienna to discuss their latest research on microbial biofilms. The „Biofilms 6“ Conference was hosted by Tom J. Battin, limnologist at the university of Vienna and group leader at WCL, and also served to launch the new journal "npj Biofilms and Microbiomes" of the „Nature“ Publishing Group. The organizer acknowledges support from Land NÖ and MA 31.
With support of the Austrian Army the boat hut of WasserCluster Lunz was renovated. The old, brittle piles were removed an new ones were placed – up to seven meters deep. For this reason the whole hut was lifted and brought ashore. Together with the team of the WasserCluster Lunz the sappers of Melk were on duty.
In summer 2013 Sarah Baumgartner did her internship at the WasserCluster Lunz. Now she was awarded by FFG (Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft) and the BMVIT (Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Innovation und Technologie) for her excellent report about the internship at WasserCluster Lunz. The ceremony took place in the Urania, Vienna.
WasserCluster Lunz presented research at the Long Night of Research on April 4th at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) in Klosterneuburg and at the Danube University Krems. The visitors could see expereriments, how scientists simulate processes of nature in laboratorys. Kids tried to catch small plankton organisms and analysed water chemistry.
There is a new face in the office of WasserCluster Lunz. Eva Lugbauer is our new secretary. She studied German Literature at the University of Viennna, worked at the local newspaper NÖN , at the broadcasting company ORF and since march she is a member of our Team. You can reach her at
